Superintendent’s Suicide Reported Following Arrest
- Note: This article updates the earlier version that appeared in the print issue of TEN.
West Texas media reported that Joshua Goen, superintendent of the 519-student Seagraves ISD in West Texas, was found dead (Dec. 9) of an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound at a residence within days after he was released from jail.
Goen was arrested (Dec. 5) on a charge of invasive visual recording.
The charge reportedly resulted (according to media accounts) from the discovery, in late November, of a digital recording device in the high school girl’s locker room.
SISD had placed Goen on paid administrative leave after learning, on Nov. 22, that Goen was the subject of an investigation involving the FBI and other law enforcement agencies. A search warrant was also reportedly executed at Goen’s home.
Following his arrest, Goen was held in a county jail before being released on a $75,000 bond.
