For Items marked below as being approved, with changes from the agenda, please look up the item in the board’s committee minutes for more info about what was changed.
Second Reading/Final Adoption (will be posted by TEA here):
- Updated CTE courses in the science, technology, engineering and math career clusters, with no changes from the agenda.
- Made various changes to high school graduation requirements as required by recent legislation, with a change made from the agenda .
- Revised (with changes from the agenda) requirements relating to the teaching of positive character traits and personal skills as required by recent legislation.
Charters and ISDs must provide the required instruction at least once in each of these four grade “bands”:
1) K-2, 2) 3-5, 3) 6-8 and 4) 9-12.The instruction can occur either through stand-alone courses or by integrating the instruction into the TEKS for courses or subject areas at the appropriate grades.

- Approved (after holding a public hearing on) a new TEKS (curriculum) for elementary and middle school Technology Applications. (Changes were made from the agenda.)
- Approved (after holding a public hearing on) adding a new legislatively required Personal Financial Literacy and Economics course. (Changes were made from the agenda.) See related item below.
- Approved changes to the list of high school courses that districts must offer.
The only change the board made from the
agenda was to modify the requirement that districts must offer both the Economics with Emphasis on the Free Enterprise System and its Benefits and the Personal Financial Literacy and Economics course by allowing a district with fewer than 500 students to offer only one of the courses upon approval by the education commissioner.
- “Approved” (by not vetoing) SBEC rules that address:-- Continuing professional education (CPE) requirements for most educators (agenda).-- The certification of educators licensed in other states (agenda) and other countries (agenda).-- 1) Providing ed-prep entities the flexibility to conduct certain formal observations virtually, 2) revising training requirements for all educators in regards to students with disabilities and in virtual instruction/virtual learning and 3) allowing military service members, spouses, and veterans to get credit toward educator certification requirements and professional experience (agenda).
- Approved (agenda) the Proclamation 2024 requirements for instructional materials that will result in new materials for science, technology applications and certain career and technical education courses for School Year 2024-25 (final version here).
- Approved (agenda) PeaceKeepers I and II and Making Connections I-IV as new innovative courses. (Click here for info about innovative courses.)
