The TEA recently posted announcements about:
  • click here New mandates under 2019’s HB3834 requiring districts to provide an annual cybersecurity training program certified by the Texas Department of Information Resources (DIR) to all employees who have access to a computer or database. The DIR has posted a list of certified training programs, and districts must submit verification of completion of the cybersecurity training program to the DIR.

  • click here Industry-based certification (IBC) exam fee reimbursements authorized by 2019’s HB3 for students passing the exams starting this school year.

  • click here TEA is accepting public comments (until March 30) on a draft federal Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA) request to expand the current waiver that allows 8th graders who take the Algebra I end-of-course (EOC) exam to not have to take the 8th grade STAAR test.

    This waiver requests that all middle school students enrolled in a high school level course be exempt from taking the grade level assessment in addition to the EOC assessment (thereby eliminating the double testing burden for accelerated students).
