It was announced at the start of the meeting that public comments can be submitted electronically until Dec. 18 about the several state agencies and commissions that have not had final reports voted on by the commission (a list that includes TRS).

This will be the public’s final opportunity to provide input before the commission approves the final reports to be submitted to the Legislature.

The commission announced it plans to meet on Jan 13, one day after the 87th Legislature convenes, to approve the final reports on these agencies.
  • Note: Some of the other agencies for which public comments are being accepted until Dec. 18 — that touch on education — include the Texas Commission on Law Enforcement, which regulates and licenses police (including school police) and school marshals — and certain functions (including cosmetologists and barbers) that are under the purview of the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation.

The commission discussed the TRS report with staff, and heard testimony from TRS Executive Director Brian Guthrie and TRS Board Chair Jarvis Hollingsworth. (See this Texas Retired Teachers Association summary for more info about what was discussed related to TRS.)
