Emergency rule adopted:
- Setting timelines and requirements for the screening of kindergarten and first grade students for dyslexia and related disorders for the current school year.
The rule is an outgrowth of a pandemic-related emergency rule adopted last school year that delayed the required screening of kindergarten students for dyslexia until they were first graders this school year.
Effective Sept. 23.
Proposed rules — (comment by Nov. 2):
- Revising rules allowing districts to contract for students to be educated in another district.
- Updating student transportation allotment rules, including reducing the allotment for high-risk-of-violence walking areas from $1.08 to $1.00 per mile to reflect a legislative appropriations change.
- Revising the criteria to be used by the TEA in selecting which districts and charters are chosen for compliance reviews of their special populations programs, and to implement recent legislation regarding dyslexia. Virtual public hearings will be held on Oct. 14 and Oct. 15.
