Critical Report
An 18-page final TEA special investigations report on the 8,600-student
DeSoto ISD in Dallas County concludes that the district incurred a $21.6 million deficit mainly due to the financial mismanagement of former DISD Superintendent David Harris (who was superintendent from March 2012 to April 2018), the members of Harris’ administration, and actions by DISD’s board.

The report concludes by recommending that the education commissioner appoint a conservator to help the district to identify the noncompliance issues identified, and to report to the agency the district’s progress in implementing a corrective action plan.

Searchable data
The TEA recently
announced that new features have been added to its Txschools.gov user friendly searchable online database that provides parents and the public with access to understandable Texas public school data.

A new mapping feature was added to allow users to refine their search by specific school characteristics, such as by academic programs, school enrollment types, accountability ratings, etc. Users can also find online Texas Virtual School Network public schools serving students in grades 3 to 12. Also, visitors will soon be able to, at the touch of a button, view a Spanish language version of any page on the website.
