TRS News
The TRS has officially started the nomination process that will lead to the governor appointing a “public school district employee” — defined as a current ISD, charter or education service center employee — to become a TRS board member starting Sept. 1, 2021, “at the earliest.”
The process includes collecting at least 250 valid signatures on a digital or hard-copy petition by Jan. 25, 2021 — and being selected by the governor for the board by being among the top three vote getters in an election to be held next spring.
A&M Scholarships
Texas A&M System Board of Regents approved (June 15), creating a special $100 million scholarship fund with the goal of making the system’s 11 A&M universities better reflect the state’s demographics.
The stated goal of the scholarship program is to address diversity issues as well as concerns of students who are first-generation and/or are from low-income families in the wake of economic uncertainty associated with COVID-19, current unemployment rates and families’ depleted emergency savings.
The program will provide $10 million annually over 10 years for scholarships to students from all socioeconomic backgrounds and students from geographically underrepresented regions of the state.

It will be up to SBEC’s governing board, following a brief hearing at an upcoming board meeting, to decide the fate of Feinberg’s certification.
KIPP fired Feinberg in early 2018 over allegations (vigorously denied by him) that he had previously sexually assaulted a student when she was a minor and had sexually assaulted two adult former KIPP students.
