U.S. Education Secretary Betsy DeVos announced (June 12) that the U.S. Department of Education approved Texas’ “Perkins V” career and technical education (CTE) plan. The TEA announced that districts and charters can now apply for Perkins V grants (Sept. 3 deadline), and that the agency has posted videos giving guidance on applying for the grants.
The TEA also posts Perkins V info on its Career and Technical Education web page.
Rule News
The TEA is accepting public comments on a proposed revision to rules that allow districts and charters to adopt local accountability systems for their campuses. Comment by July 27.
Early Childhood News
The TEA announced (June 8) the creation of a new website focused on “data driven instruction in early childhood” that focuses on data collection requirements for PK to second grade.
The website also provides links to free tools and information to help educators decide what tools will work best for each school district and charter.
