Taxable Value Rule
The state Comptroller has adopted new rules (pdf) to implement 2019’s SB2 concerning audits of the total taxable value of property in an ISD. Changes, based on public comment, were made from the version originally proposed. Effective May 26.

Free School Safety Conference
The pandemic has transformed the 2020 Texas School Safety Conference from an in-person, five-day event that was expected to draw 1,200 attendees to San Marcos into a free, one-day virtual conference that will be held on July 16.

The conference is one of many online training and info sessions the safety center is sponsoring this summer.

Indicted

Former City View ISD tax collector Judith Ann Heaston, 64, was indicted in an alleged embezzlement scheme involving up to $340,000 that was reportedly taken over a period of seven years, Wichita Falls-area media reported (May 25).

Heaston had been arrested in February of 2019 after the superintendent discovered what he called significant discrepancies involving large sums of money in the accounts of the City View tax office, the
Texas Monitor reported.

Between the time she was fired from the 1,000-student CVISD and was arrested, she had made an unsuccessful suicide attempt, published reports reflect.
