The UIL announced that its summer meeting will be held virtually over two days (June 16-17).
Proposals by the public for rule changes to be considered at the meeting are due by June 8. There will be no opportunities for in-person presentations for rule changes from the public during the meeting.
TRS News
The road toward full disclosure of the TRS’ lease of three floors of a downtown Austin building now under construction to house the system’s investment division has hit another legal roadblock, the Austin American-Statesman reported (May 15).
A development company with ties to the project has filed suit against State Attorney General Ken Paxton to keep an unredacted copy of the Indeed Tower lease from being released, and the TRS — even though it isn’t a party in the suit — told the Statesman that it won’t release the complete copy of the lease due to a lawsuit by a “third party.”
The TRS previously disclosed its base lease rates. Due to the controversy over the lease, the TRS has embarked upon a plan to keep its investment office where it currently is (at another downtown Austin office building) and try to sublease the Indeed Tower space as a part of a master plan involving the sale of the current TRS headquarters building, moving the headquarters operations to a “campus” to be built elsewhere in Austin.
Meanwhile, the Texas Sunset Advisory Commission has tentatively set its public hearing — postponed from April 30 due to COVID-19 — on TRS to occur some time during the July 8-10 series of Sunset hearings on eight public agencies and commissions. The exact date for the TRS hearing will be announced later. (check here for updates)
